All You Need Is a Little Trimmin'

I love looking through my old journals. Here’s an entry that had be laughing, but grateful for the lesson it taught me then and reminded me of now.

Today has been a great day. I got to get some much needed rest, catch up on Grey’s Anatomy, paint my nails, and get a haircut. As I thought about my haircut today, I dwelled on how much I love the freedom from split ends! Everyone needs a good, refreshing trim from time to time. A good haircut reminded me of John 15 when the Lord discusses the fact that He is the vine and we are the branches. The Lord prunes the branches so that we can continue to be fruitful and bear fruit. “Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you. In the same way that a branch can’t bear grapes by itself but only by being joined to the vine, you can’t bear fruit unless you are joined with me.” Like a good haircut trims away damage, breakage, split ends, and evens up the whole lot, so God trims us that we might bear fruit to bring Him glory. The world batters and bruises us, causing us to be damaged and broken but the Lord strengthens and refreshes us. Who would have thought that a haircut on an ordinary day could teach me so much!
